WHAT KIND OF COACHING & COUNSELING DO YOU OFFER?

In-Person Appointments are only available to Indiana clients who are able to visit Tim Tedder in Carmel, Indiana (north of Indianapolis). See the Contact Us page for more detail.

Video and phone sessions are offered to our coaching clients worldwide and to our Indiana counseling clients. Although our therapists have interest and experience in several areas of personal need, we are proud of the unique focus we offer in the following areas:
  • Affair Recovery
  • Marriage & Couples Coaching
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND COUNSELING?

We are licensed counselors who also offers coaching services to individuals and couples who are not Indiana residents (where in-office and telehealth therapy is provided). Coaching sessions are not meant to be a substitute for ongoing therapeutic work. We always encourages people to seek help from a local professional, if available.

How coaching & counseling are alike:
  • In both, we focus on helping couples and individuals work through their issues in ways that direct them toward healing.
  • In both, we invest in knowing our clients and help them gain insight into current patterns and clarity of future change.
  • In both, we direct recommended steps toward change, often in the form of exercises to be completed outside of sessions.

How coaching & counseling are different:
  • Coaching services are intended as an alternative for people outside of Indiana (or outside driving distance to the Indianapolis area).
  • Coaching focuses on our advice regarding your current situation, whereas counseling usually has a longer view of target goals and outcomes.
  • Coaching is conversation with a professional. We do not keep a the same kind of files on you.
  • Coaching sessions are not reimbursed by insurance.
  • Coaching focuses on advice, education, and skill-building to help an individual or couple move toward change. We will not diagnose you. We will usually not work as extensively to explore past issues (family of origin, etc.) or work to uncover root causes of behavior patterns. If issues being addressed go beyond the scope of coaching (especially if there is need for in-office therapy or the use of tools appropriate for counseling), we will recommend that you seek counseling instead.
Although we choose to follow most of the same ethical standards in coaching as we do in counseling, there is a difference in how the counseling profession views those roles. Coaching sessions would not be legally bound by the same privacy standards as therapy. (Although we view confidentiality much the same in both counseling a coaching, a court may not.) Coaching does not carry the same level of responsibility as counseling (to pass you to another care-giver if necessary, for example). In all, counseling requires a higher degree of responsibility for the therapist than coaching does for the coach.

As part of the coaching process, we may recommend interaction with someone other than ourselves. This may be another counselor or an individual/couple we believes will provide additional help in your specific situation. You will always know this ahead of time, not “surprised” to find yourself interacting with someone other than Tim or Sharon.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF VIDEO SESSIONS?

More people are making use of telehealth (video) option for a number of good reasons:
  • It's quick & easy. You don't have to fight traffic to get to your appointment.
  • It's convenient. You can join your session from your home, your office, or anywhere with a decent internet connection. In couples counseling, the partners can even be in separate locations.
  • It's personal. It allows for real-time interaction between client and therapist.
  • It's private. No need to show up at an office to interact with a front desk or people in a waiting room.
  • It's safe. If personal distancing is important for health reasons, video/phone sessions allow you to get help in whatever environment is comortable to you.
WHAT APPOINTMENT TIMES ARE AVAILABLE?

For Coaching: Hours available for video counseling vary during the week in order to accommodate different client schedules. Each therapist may have hours that change slightly from week to week, but weekday and evening hours are available. Use our online scheduling service to see what hours are available for each coach. (You can view a coach's availability without making an appointment.)

For Indiana Residents: Visit the Renewal Counseling website for more information.
I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. NOW WHAT DO I DO?

Check the email account you used in setting up your portal account. As long as you did not disable the emailing option, you should receive confirmation and reminders of your appointment. These emails will contain complete information about joining sessions.

For video appointments you can log into your portal at the appointment time and click the video button that will appear next your appoitment. For phone appointments, call into your coach's unique conference number which can be found listed in your confirmation email. (If you cannot find your email, please email your coach directly.)

For help using your client portal, download the Simple Practice Portal Guide.
HOW MUCH DO VIDEO or PHONE SESSIONS COST?

Session Rate: $120/50-min; $65/25-min.
ARE VIDEO SESSIONS SECURE? COMPLICATED? RELIABLE?

Video sessions are secure and confidential (HIPPA compliant). When you schedule an appointment, the link to your video session will be sent to you and will also be available in your private client portal. For complete information & help, download the Telehealth Guide (PDF).

As long as you have a good internet connection, you can use your computer, tablet, or smartphone to join the video session. For Couples: Both may share the same device, or each may join the video session using separate tablets or computers (since a phone screen is likely not large enough to show all participants).

We rarely have problems with video sessions. When we do, it's usually do to a poor internet connection. In those circumstances, turning off the video feature will allow for an audio-only session. These problems can be easily avoided by making sure your device isn't running other programs at the same time and that your internet connection isn't being used heavily by other programs or devices. (For example, trying to conduct a video session on the same WiFi service that is also being use to stream video, download content, update services, or play games at the same time will likely cause interference.)
CAN WE SCHEDULE AN IN-PERSON APPOINTMENT?

Most sessions are conducted via video or phone. Check Tim.s personal website for updated information regarding options for in-person sessions: timtedder.com.
WHY DO YOU ASK FOR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION?

Your credit card is not charged prior to your scheduled appointment, but we require the information for two reasons: (1) it helps assure that new clients intend to keep their scheduled appointment; (2) the payment process is streamlined following your appointment, since we can simply charge the card on file.
WHAT ABOUT MISSED APPOINTMENTS?

A 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment is required. Missed appointments or late cancellations will be charged 1/2 the full session fee.  (Your coach will wait at least 10 minutes before leaving a session.)
I NEED HELP, BUT IT'S MORE THAN I CAN AFFORD. ARE THERE ANY OTHER OPTIONS?

Yes. We have a limited number of scholarships available and we can also recommend resources that provide free or discounted rates. For more information, see our Reduced Fees page.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Coaching services are not usually covered by insurance. We do not accept insurance but if you work with a provider who offers remimbursements for this kind of health care we can provide you with a receipt of services.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Frequency of sessions (monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, etc.) will be decided by you and your counselor. The length of coaching varies with each client depending on his/her needs and goals. In the end, though, YOU are in control of your appointments.
HOW DO I USE THE CLIENT PORTAL?

Our online portal allows clients to access their information, documents, scheduling, and billing information. The service we use, Simple Practice, focuses on the particular needs of the counseling community. They have provided a Client Portal Guide (PDF doc) to help clients use their portal.
ARE MY SESSIONS CONFIDENTIAL?

Absolutely. In our coaching services, we practice the same standard of privacy as we do in our counseling practice. Our client portal and video technologies are HIPPA complaint, keeping your data secure. Information about you is never released to anyone without your written permission. Everything said in therapy is confidential and will not be disclosed except when reporting is required or permitted by the state law.

Exceptions to confidentiality include the following: suspected abuse of a child, developmentally disabled person, or a dependent adult; potential suicidal behavior; threatened harm to another, which may include knowledge that the client is HIV positive when there is an unwillingness to inform individuals with whom the client is intimately involved; and when required by compulsory process

Information may also be disclosed if you sign a written authorization or in the event that you file a complaint against your counselor. Payment by check, bank or credit card allows bank employees to view names of Current Counseling clients. If you have caller identification on your phone, the name of the agency may appear on the monitor.

In keeping with generally accepted standards of practice, supervision and consultation may be made regarding the management of your treatment with other mental health professionals who are bound by the same rules of confidentiality.

In some situations cell phones may be used by coaches to contact clients. Please note that e-mail is NOT a confidential means of communication.
